If you grew up in the 1980s or 1990s, the DMC DeLorean holds a special place in your heart. Heavily featured in the 1985 classic Back To The Future, Doc Brown’s DeLorean was able to travel through time after hitting 88 miles per hour which is why it’s completely understandable for DeLorean owner Spencer White, who just bought the thing, to drive his DeLorean well over the speed limit on a California highway.
What isn’t understandable is the complete killjoy police officer that pulled him over and gave him a speeding ticket while he was re enacting one of the greatest tropes in film history.
He was so close!
Here’s what happened. Last week, Spencer was cruising along when he noticed that his solid metal stallion was hurling across the asphalt at 85 miles per hour. “I thought, let’s take it up to 88 mph,” he said. “I only got three more miles to go.”
Right when White hit 88 miles per hour he saw a bright flash of light, but it wasn’t the flash of his car traveling through time, it was the red and blue of the California Highway Patrol.
When the cop caught the reference, he laughed and asked if White had a flux capacitor in his car like a true bro. You’d think he would have left it at that, but no. He wrote White a speeding ticket! How lame is that? I mean, sure. White was traveling nearly 20 miles over the speed limit, which is definitely a crime, but is that worth the even greater crime of ruining White’s fun?
No. Unless you’re a lawyer or judge then…yes. It is.
