Lady Gaga is not only nominated for her first Academy Award, she will also be introduced at the big awards show by Vice President Joe Biden.
Gaga’s tune, “Til It Happens to You,” her contribution to “The Hunting Ground” movie soundtrack, is up for an award.
The track is nominated for Best Original Song at the ceremony, which will air on Feb. 28.
White House officials have confirmed that Vice President Joe Biden will introduce Lady Gaga at the upcoming awards ceremony as part of a performance that aims to raise awareness about sexual violence against women.
Billboard Magazine reported that the former Delaware senator was the primary author of the Violence Against Women Act, which President Clinton signed into law in 1994.
Biden will direct Academy Awards viewers to a website titled ItsOnUs.org, the campaign mentioned in Gaga’s “Til It Happens to You” video.”
The Vice President plans to attend the ceremony with his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The singer co-wrote the piece, which is about campus sexual assault, with songwriter Diane Warren for the documentary film “The Hunting Ground.”
The “Its On Us” official website explains their mission is quite important to anyone who has been a victim of sexual assault.
The website states the following:
To recognize that non-consensual sex is sexual assault.
To identify situations in which sexual assault may occur.
To intervene in situations where consent has not or cannot be given.
To create an environment in which sexual assault is unacceptable and survivors are supported.
This is the first Academy Award nomination for Gaga, who describes the nod as “an incredible honor.”
In an interview, Gaga remarked, “The nomination is an honor and it is extremely healing actually. I feel vindicated for my own experience in a way because the song is about continuing to fight your demons about what happened to you.”
