“Mob Wives” star Big Ang died on Thursday after battling stage four cancer. Angela Raiola, 55, passed away in a hospital in Manhattan surrounded by friends and family.
Friend Vinnie Medugno announced on her official Twitter: “It is with sad regret that we inform you that at 3:01AM Angela Raiola peacefully ended her battle with cancer, and was called home. She was surrounded by nothing but love from her immediate family, and closest friends.
“YOU, (Her fans) were some of most special people in her world, and she loved you immensely. Thank you for your love, prayers, and unconditional support of Angela right to the very end…
“The family asks for privacy, and peace during this most difficult time. In typical Big Ang fashion, we know she would say ‘Love you my babies!'”
Medugno also paid tribute to Big Ang on Instagram:
I’m not here for a long time, I’m here for a good time! -Big Ang Everything with you was exactly what those words embodied. You lived by your own mantra. I will love you, cherish you, and hold you in my heart wherever I go, and whatever I do. Thank you for being a major part of my life. You’ve taught and brought so much to me. Sleep peacefully, and kiss my grandmother. Goodbye my love!
Fans sent messages of support to the family, writing comments such as, “So sorry for your loss, “Condolences and prayers eternal!” and “May The Good Lord wrap you in his loving arms.”
Big Ang was first diagnosed with throat cancer in April, and doctors removed a tumor in her throat. Unfortunately, the disease spread to her brain and lungs.
Earlier this year, Ang’s sister, Janine Detore, wrote on a GoFundMe page: “My sister was diagnosed with stage 4 brain and lung cancer. Chemotherapy was started January 5th. On January 26th the doctor reviewed her CT scan and informed us that the treatment was not working, and in fact one tumor grew larger and the other tumors had no change.”
Big Ang is survived by her two children, Raquel and Anthony, and six grandchildren.
