The Disappearance Of Richard Simmons Just Became Stranger

This weekend was riddled with talk about not only the disappearance of exercise guru Richard Simmons, but also talk that he was being held against his will somewhere in the world. Pretty random for a guy that spends his entire life spreading joy to anyone that would have him, but today he finally “broke free” and called a correspondent with the Today Show to let them know what the hell was going on.

“You know, I do what I want to do as I’ve always done so people should sort of just believe what I have to say because like I’m Richard Simmons! I’m doing good, my health is good and I’m just sort of enjoying the day.”

Listen to that phone call here. However the phone call made to Today Show’s Savannah Guthrie has people even more concerned.

The New York Daily News really opened up a can of worms this weekend by covering the story which said that Simmons had avoided even speaking with friends for the past two years, not to mention failing to conduct his public classes in his Los Angeles studio. Kinda strange for someone to just disappear like that for really no specific reason, isn’t it?

Let’s play devil’s advocate for a moment. We’ve seen enough movies where we see the person held hostage allowed to make a phone call in order to tell their loved ones that they’re okay, CUT TO someone in a mask holding a gun to the hostage’s head…or in Simmons’ case a piece of pie. But everyone is taking Simmons’ call at face value but does that mean he’s not in trouble? I personally think it’s just weird that he would call the Today Show on a Sunday. That’s just for starters.

Those close to Simmons claim that his housekeeper is controlling him but Simmons let people know in that call to Today that that’s not true and that he’s known Teresa Reveles for 30 years.

Regardless, it does seem weird for someone whose goal in life was to connect with people and be an advocate for health and fitness to just totally disappear because he didn’t feel like it anymore. Is Simmons sick? Depressed? Actually being held hostage? There’s clearly something more going on here than what he established in his phone call, that’s for certain.
