Strap yourselves in, this is going to be one thrilling ride! Sony Picture and People Magazine have unveiled the first trailer for the tense drama The Shallows. The basic premise finds Blake Lively trying to survive against a Great White Shark attack! The movie is in theaters this summer.
In the taut nail-biter The Shallows, Nancy (Blake Lively) is surfing alone on a secluded beach. That’s when she is attacked by a great white shark and stranded just a short distance from shore. Though she is only 200 yards from her survival, getting there proves the ultimate contest of wills. It’s Jaws for a new generation.
Jaume Collet-Serra directs The Shallows. He was first introduced to audiences with his 2005 remake House of Wax. The past couple of years, he has become better known for his collaborations with action icon Liam Neeson. They first worked together on 2014’s Non-Stop, and reunited for last year’s Run All Night. They will next team-up for The Commuter, which arrives in 2017. The filmmaker has also been connected to the long gestating live-action Akira adaptation set up at Warner Bros.
Perhaps Jaume Collet-Serra‘s most recognized directorial effort is 2009’s Orphan, which shocked and surprised audiences with its terrifying ending. The movie is also noted for its intense storytelling and visual flair. All of which is evident in this first look at The Shallows. It’s possible that the director has created another classic in the genre.
The Shallows is being describes as a cross between 127 Hours and Open Water. Blake Lively‘s character is a young woman dealing with the recent death of her mother when she decided to spend some time alone on the open ocean. Injured and stranded on an offshore buoy, she must overcome her initial attack and make it back to shore without getting munched on by one hungry shark. Anthony Jaswinski wrote The Shallows, a script that wound up on the coveted Black List. Weimaraner Republic Pictures partners Lynn Harris and Matti Leshem are producing. Take a look at the terrifying sneak peek, then let us know what you think. Is this the must see Shark movie of the summer?
