This Picture Of A Model Wearing A Red Swimsuit Is Breaking Instagram

Instagram users yesterday found their feeds covered in this picture of a model wearing a red one piece bathing suit.

Is she some popular supermodel? No. Is this an iconic image that promotes a special interest issue? No. Does everyone who re-gram this image get something for free? Ding ding ding, we have a winner.

The company that makes the swimsuit, Sunny Co Clothing posted on Instagram that “EVERYONE that reposts and tags us in this picture within the next 24 HOURS will receive a FREE Pamela Sunny Suit.” The offer expired on May 3rd and in the few hours that it was active, the image was re-grammed over one-hundred-thousand times. The swimsuit has a suggested retail price of around sixty-five dollars, so that accounts for a loss of around six-and-a-half-million dollars.

That’s a lot of money for a small company to lose so of course, the internet thinks it’s a scam. Many Twitter users believe this insane deal is real, but hate the sudden innundation of the above picture of a women in a red swimsuit. One Twitter user posted “Bored today? Take a shot every time you see the post on [Instagram]. You’ll be blacked out in about 3 minutes.” Another Twitter user who understood the marketing aspects of the campaign posted “Sunny Co Clothing, you’ve annoyed me with your marketing campaign but have successfully got me to look up your company. Kudos. You win.”

Sweet Victory

Will Sunny Co Clothing honor their end of the bargain and give one-hundred-thousand people a free sixty-five dollar bathing suit or will the founders fake their own deaths as a means to avoid a potentially HUGE social media backlash? Time will tell. In the mean time, I’m kicking myself for not sharing their Instagram post. No matter your gender, a free bathing suit is a free bathing suit!
