“Grease Live” star Vanessa Hudgens and boyfriend Austin Butler’s romantic gesture of love could get them in trouble with the law.
According to E! News, the couple is now involved in a criminal investigation after a vandalized rock near the Coconino National Forest showed up on Marcil’s Instagram account.
Marcil took a sweet pic (that has since been deleted) of the couple’s initials carved into a rock.
Police have begun an investigation into the matter.
TMZ reported via E! News that there is a law that makes it illegal to “damage natural surfaces or property of the United States.”
Both actors could face misdemeanor charges if they are found guilty.
E! News reported that they could face fines of up to $5,000 or six months in jail.
The couple was attempting to have some normalcy in their lives after Hudgens’ months of rehearsals for the role of Rizzo in “Grease Live.”
Hudgens also lost her beloved father the evening before the live show but insisted she fulfill her duties to Fox and perform that night nonetheless.
The actress tweeted the news of her sad loss Sunday morning, then followed up with a tweet saying she would perform in the musical later in the day “in his honor.”
Said Hudgens, “I am so sad to say that last night my daddy, Greg passed away from stage 4 cancer. Thank you to everyone who kept him in your prayers.”
USA Today reported that the actress spoke in August about her father’s battle at the 2015 Industry Dance Awards & Cancer Benefit Show.
“Last year, my boyfriend, Austin (Butler), lost his mom, Lori, to cancer, and my dad has just been recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. And, let me tell you, I hate cancer. I hate cancer with every cell of my being,” she said at the event.
The actress later dedicated the award she received to Austin’s mother, her father and to all families struggling with cancer.
